CI in Groups / Collective Processes

This group meets some (but not all) months:
3rd Thursday of the month
12pm PDT / 3pm EDT / 9pm CEST
90 min (+/- 15 min)

To all of you gatherers of groups, conveners of spaces, makers of group magic, holders of collective questions, educators, and those curious to begin…

Let’s gather to discuss group facilitation from a CI lens.

This focus group explores ways to integrate the CI approach into group processes and collective healing (i.e., group facilitation, conflict mediation, group therapy, rituals and ceremonies, education and workshops, restorative justice and circle processes, etc.).

What questions do you hold? What are you wanting to do but not sure you’re ready to begin? Hopefully this space will help all of us move toward more readiness, even if the best questions generate more questions than answers.

One of the most common questions is, “How do I bring or incorporate CI into a group facilitation context?“, and we always have fun exploring this question.

Other questions are about how we create cohesion, connection, and safety, or how to bring vulnerability to our process when we struggle with these aims.  And many other questions arrive at each meeting, as well.

We set aside time for a “sand box” period, where attendees can try out an activity, such as a grounding, a ritual, or some other invitation to bring the group into a particular experience, to see how it feels and receive feedback in a safe space (using the feedback protocols we’re familiar with from CI as a jumping off point).

Structure of our time together for this session will be roughly like this:
(1) check-ins / introductions
(2) topic discussions brought by participants
(3) sandbox session(s)
(4) feedback / discussion of how it went
(5) final comments / closure

Hope to see you there!

We will refer to the first 4 sections of the CI Map as our starting point for how we can align our groups with CI:
(1) External Conditions to Maintain
(2) Qualities as a Therapist (*Facilitator*): Who You Are
(3) 7 Pillars of Compassionate Inquiry
(4) Therapeutic (*Facilitation*) Skills to Develop
